Which end up where at end of life?

Given that lead in electronics (excluding CRT's) amounts to 0.5% of that
used globally one must question the ethics of imposed change.

The good thing for electronics will be stronger solder joints (if there made
at all!).

Downsides:
Equipment, and indeed companies, forced redundant by the change.
Increased energy used as a result of higher nitrogen usage and higher
temperatures.
Making solder from elements much less prevalent than lead.
Our beloved tin whiskers causing foreshortened reliability.
Etc.

Depending on where you are in the world, chances are that there is already
more lead in the ground soil that would ever get there via landfill
electronics.

Seems like an awful lot of energy and entropy for little gain. Quite typical
of Europe.

Best Regards

Lead is likely to be a viable material for equipment exempt from the RoHS
Directives and such like.

Which reminds me -

Given that lead ores are often by-products of the tin mining industry, and
that tin, antimony, bismuth etc are by-products of lead extraction, what's
going to happen to all that unwanted lead when we still mine tin etc for
solder?

Land fill?

http://www.ipc.org/TOC/IPC-1066.pdf free download, covers it, bit I've seen
some regional logo's elsewhere.

No standards or where to put them.

I don't know if 610 will cover it, but anybody putting it in PCB art, if so,
what?
