That is truly sad news Pete...

I just found the article and picture you wrote about him on the website...

http://pcdandm.com/pcdmag/

Aside from the picture I sent to you Pete from Steve's CID workshop class...
I also have the memories of Steve and his great sense of humor, his love of
this profession we share and his tremendous talent with music and design.
Steve always talked about being on the 'inside' with the 'F.O.P.'... the
"Friends of Pete" club... and had great fondness for the 'Porch Dawgs' and
the performances and get-togethers at PCB West... he loved the harmonica and
even told me he went to special 'jam sessions' with some great 'harp'
players in Los Angeles... I have heard him play and he is one of the best
'harp players' I have ever heard, but he was enthralled with just having the
opportunity to jam with them for just an evening.

I had the pleasure of having him attend the CID workshop I conducted where
he passed his CID certification. We later went to have a beer at the local
microbrewery and enjoyed talking about old times. He always smiled when he
talked about you Pete... and he was a damn hard working guy... and lived
life with a lot of heart and gusto... he wanted to be the best at what he
did and you could see the gleam in his eye when he was working on something
to get it down... he had a competitive edge about him.. but it was always
friendly.

Steve was well known in San Diego among some of the local designers, he
worked with the Dennis O'Connor's group over at 911EDA for a number of years
and with Tom Hausherr at Windriver... I had the opportunity to see some of
the designs Steve was doing and they were very complex RF boards with many
components... I know he spent many a long night working on a tight schedule
to get a job done and right... and he really cared about it and took great
pride in his work. He shared his knowledge freely with his peers and loved
being a designer.

We saw him at the local IPC Designers Council meetings and Steve attended
our PCB Design class at Palomar College with some other really great veteran
designers of his ilk when we had first set up to include Mentor Expedition
at the college... He was always there with a smile and a joke, to brighten
up the group with conversation and to share a PCB design related story,
which really was his special talent.

The next time you get together with your friends and have a beer, raise one
to Steve Toothacre and his memory... He was a great designer and touched a
lot of people along the way...and he was a good friend. He will be missed.

Best regards,

Bill Brooks - KG6VVP
