Picture is up! Go to; http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com and look at COAX Solder joint. Nice picture btw...

You are dead-on about making the lead longer. We build aluminum boxes for a airborn phased array radar, that have coax in them just like yours. Except the leads are much longer than the one in the picture, and soldered all along the length of it.
