I lost, management took the engineers stance on the connector issue. So if and when it becomes a problem in production I am going to send all the calls to the engineer and tell him "it was your decision to do this now you can deal with the calls." 
        It was funny, he could not understand why I was telling him it should be correct in the footprint, his only response was "I will not look at the design unless you make it the way I want it, and that the connector manufacture was dumb." 
        In evil sort of way I kind of hope it blows up.
