G'day Everyone.

The question I have is about ESD standards pertaining to footwear.

Presently our facility uses ESD foot and wrist straps for ESD grounding.
There is an effort under way to test some of the available ESD shoes that
are readily available from most shoe companies.

Shoes that we have bought and tested all fail our in-house, calibrated,
testers for high resistance. The shoes themselves are rated to spec of
between 1megohm and 100megohms, and the testers are calibrated to a maximum
of 120megohms.

The discussion that is going on right now is the fact that there seems to be
2 standards for static dissipative footwear.

ANSI standard Static Dissipative type 1 is rated between
1megohm and 100megohms.
ANSI standard Static Dissipative type 2 is rated between
1megohm and 1000megohms.

For use in electronics manufacturing, what is generally being used by those
in the industry, type 1, or 2?

I realize some may not want to share that type of information readily, but
any help would be appreciated. I have already looked into the technet
archives but did not find the information I was looking for.

Thanks in advance.
