Sorry for the inconvenience! Date correction below:
MEETING OF THE SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER
OF THE IPC DESIGNERS COUNCIL
Date: Tuesday, the 7th of December, 2004
Where: UIC Technical Center in Southington
Time: Networking 6:00pm
Topic: Tour of the Uyemura-USA facility
More questions seem to abound concerning lead free alternative finishes even
after our three part series. To further address some of these issues, we
went directly to a supplier of some of these alternative finishes. Featured will
be a tour of the facility---including an explanation of the prototype line
for various processes. Lab instrumentation includes SEM/EDAX, Atomic
Absorption, Meniscograph, ICP, CVS, thickness measuring devices; purity and hardness
testing , etc.
What is important to understand is all the testing that is being done to
these alternative materials to establish their viability as a lead replacement.
These are the experts, so be prepared to ask questions or voice your
concerns.
Host: Uyemura is a 160 year old Japanese owned company that specializes in
plating chemistries, especially for electronics industries. They are leaders
for electroless nickel/immersion gold, electroless gold and immersion silver
processes. They recently released information about a revolutionary new
approach to DC acid copper plating for printed circuits, claiming higher
reliability combined with lower costs. In this market we also exclusively represent
two German companies (Umicore-Galvanotechnik---formerly called Degussa; and
CL Technologies) and another Japanese firm (MEC---sophisticated adhesion
promoters for dry film and solder masks).
