Glynn,

I don't remember reading anywhere that ENIG was acceptable for 250,000 wipes. However I do a have a few comments. 1). My memory is getting bad in my old age. 2). I'm not sure any finish will survive 250K wipes. 3). In the telecom world the standard is 30u" of gold over electrolytic Ni in order to provide good contact after 200 insertions. 4). I've seen several vendors of DIMM and SIMM memory modules switch to ENIG but the modules are used in zero-insertion receptacles

Regards,
George

Subject: [TN] ENIG as edge-connector finish

I thought I read somewhere that IPC said Enig was an acceptable finish for
switches and would withstand in excess of 250,000 wiping actions. Does
anyone know if 150 micro inches electroless nickel with 4-6 micro inches
immersion gold is acceptable as a finish for edge connectors?
