Glynn - ENIG was tested for soft membrane switch applications to 1.5 million
cycles - there was no testing for the wiping type switches. For plug to
install applications ENIG works fine as an edge connector plating. For LIF
or ZIF type connectors the number of insertions will obviously be much
higher. Testing for the 1.5 million cycles was run on 150 micro inches Ni
and 3 micro inches gold

Subject: [TN] ENIG as edge-connector finish

I thought I read somewhere that IPC said Enig was an acceptable finish for
switches and would withstand in excess of 250,000 wiping actions. Does
anyone know if 150 micro inches electroless nickel with 4-6 micro inches
immersion gold is acceptable as a finish for edge connectors?
