Been travelling round so just got to this.
I thought Colossus was the first programmable electronic computer, was valve
[tube] based dating from 1943/1944, but kept secret till late sixties.
For any curious types there is a working rebuilt machine in museum just down
road from here [Milton Keynes UK].
