Simplifying Test with JTAG
The Greater Boston Chapter of the IPC Designer's Council will
hold its next meeting on Thursday, Nov 18th at 6pm in the
cafeteria of American Power Conversion (APC) in Billerica MA.
Rick Pierpont of JTAG Technologies will discuss the use of
boundary scan as a part of test strategies. Besides handling
programming of flash and logic devices, JTAG can provide high
test coverage with minimal fixturing. Present on many many
high complexity devices already, we'll see how to use it to
break the log-jam of probing every net - a near impossibility
around modern fine-pitch/high-density components.
Given the nature of this topic, consider bringing along some-
one from engineering or manufacturing who has been demanding
100% coverage on one side of a board. To this end, members
can bring a guest at the member cost - let's end the mystery
of simple and effective test solutions!

RSVP's needed:
Please RSVP to either Jeff Seeger [log in to unmask] or
[log in to unmask] by Thursday noontime, 18-Nov. We need
this to plan the food order and appreciate your help.
President's Note:
Glad to get the new meeting season off and running, we'll be
trying to keep up one meeting per month and so far that seems
to be working. In December we'll be looking at new material
restrictions (courtesy of Europe's upcoming Halogen Free law)
that promise to change all the laminates we've come to know
and love. In January we'll get a refresher course on plated
through holes, which we'd all just like to assume work fine
but if you think about it there are many variations these
days each type has it's own DFM rules and method to bite you.
Mission:
Now more than ever, the printed board design community needs
to be gaining expertise in all areas that touch a finished
board. If we can continue to anticipate the needs of those
who engineer, fabricate and produce them we can withstand the
onslaught of overseas competition.
The Greater Boston Chapter of the IPC Designer's Council is
dedicated to bringing you every angle we can find so you can
enhance your knowledge and add value to your job in new ways.
Your help and participation would be most appreciated, how
about getting involved!
Thanks and regards,
