Alejandro,
We, too, have recently had coplanarity problems with a multi-leaded SMT
transformer from one of our suppliers. The 0.004" spec was quoted by them as
well, and unfortunately they were probably within this tolerance (which is,
of course, really 0.008 - that is +/- 0.004"). We had them change the lead
pitch a bit to angle the lead down into the solder paste to help relieve an
insufficient solder situation on most of the reflowed devices. It looks like
you're running into the same type of situation with reduced solder mass at
the solder junction with the leads. Might try the lead pitch trick to see if
it helps your situation a bit. Definitely helped ours...

Subject: [TN] Coplanarity for SMT connectors

Hello,
We are having solderability problems with a SMT connector.
The coplanarity spec is 0.004" (0.10mm).
The solderability problems are related to Non solder in the lower part of
the terminals.

Regards

Alejandro Becerra
