I agree cooling the air to well below ambient will remove humidity that
could condense on de-compression. I do not believe it will remove
particles or residual oil.

What is the point of bench-top cleaning if the first thing you do is to
re-contaminate the assembly?

Having worked in contamination control in electronics for over 30 years
- as many here will testify - I can assure you that nitrogen is the best
blowing gas at an affordable price, followed closely by the slightly
cheaper distilled bottled air. Those of you who inert their soldering
processes have a ready supply of nitrogen at virtually no extra cost;
why not use it?
