I guess I need to add one too.

There is a town in upstate NY out side of Rochester .... Chili, NY
To most you would say it like the beans and sauce meal. But to those whom
live there it is said

Chie-Lie with both of the "i's" being said like the letter hard sounding
"i". I guess they do not want to be
associated with a gas building meal.

Hi Group,
I live in Kansas which derives it's name from
the (pronounced as) Kansaw Indians. We insist that
the Arkansas River is pronounced Ar-Kansas in this
state only. We call the state Ar-Kan-Saw and the
river the same if they aren't within the state boundary!
BTW I'm a native, but call the river Ar-Kan-Saw
wherever I am in the country.
We also have a street in Wichita named Greenwich.
It is pronounced Green-Wich by most in town! I insist
on the proper Grin-ich when I reference it.
Glad it's Friday and the end of the month.
Regards,
Dave

I got to add my two cents to this one!

As most of you know, I came out here to Tulsa, Oklahoma from California
about 5-years ago. One thing that's always puzzled me out here, is why
Kansas is pronounced "Can-sass", but Arkansas is pronounced
"Ark-can-saw"???

Happy Friday!
