Hi Victor,

I suspect what you are experiencing is called Halo effect.  As you note,
flux residue is the most common cause for this effect.  The type of
cleaning solution which will be appropriate is typically and primarily
determined by understanding the type of LF flux you are using.  The LF
Flux manufacturer may be able to recommend what type of cleaning
chemistries have demonstrated the ability to work well.  Once the
cleaning chemistry is selected; consider the rinsing and drying needs as
well.

The cleaning chemistry suppliers AAT mostly works with are Kyzen,
Petroferm and Zestron chemistries.

Can someone recommend a general purpose LF Flux remover/dissolver?
I need to cross section a Ball Grid Array solder bump in which I want to
minimize the epoxy voiding around the solder ball due to a crystal clear
ring formation residue left from the solder paste. Has any one
conducting BGA cross section ran across this artifact.
