There is a difference between that and the unit  Bill provided the link to.
Bill's unit will function like a flash drive. It does not care what file
system is on the computer you are plugging into.
Most external drive boxes require you to format the drive for a specific
file system like NTFS or FAT32.
I have used old drives with boxes like you mentioned with very good
results.  I have still have Windows98se and ME machines that I plug these
guys into. But I have experienced some problems when plugging these into a
NTFS system over a period of time.
Maybe some of you may know why.
