In the Component Identification Desk Reference Manual,  IPC-DRM-18, page
1.  Common terms:  if a component is packaged with only one or two
functional elements it is called discrete, such as a resistor which has a
single function of limiting the current that flows through it.

Dear Technetters,

Does anybody know the exact definition of the term
"Discrete Component"? I have been searching all kind
of documents, but can't find an official definition.

I hope there is somebody out there who can help me
where to find this, or what the definition is.
