Virtually any sort of pre-finishing you do to high Silicon Aluminum creates problems, as Al is so readily attacked by almost any cleaner, at either end of the pH scale, and the Silicon is not, so the Silicon forms a loose, but extremely difficult to remove, smut.

We offer a desmut for Aluminum specifically formulated to address this issue... the difference in the parts when using normal Al desmuts, vs this product is slightly amazing.

I suspect that the plating on high Si parts, treated with a typical desmut will have serious adhesion problems.
