        Hi Kenny:
Agree, you should give yourself some wiggle room. An alternate part list drawing will also work. This drawing will affect all drawing. So every time you want to add a part to the drawings all you have to do is add it to the alternate part list. The drawing should have a table of components with two or more columns. On the left the alternate part and on the right of it the parts it is replacing.
        Regards,
        Ramon

Subject: Re: [TN] Lead Finish

Your note should say "Leads shall be solder coated using SN63 or (your
company name) Engineering approved equivalent. Contract Manufacturer
shall secure written deviation from this requirement in advance."

This will allow you to change requirements without changing your
drawings every time, and still provide a paper trail. Also, if your
company is like most, the order of procurement authority has the
Purchase Order the supreme authority. You Purchasing department should
be able to amment the requirements by issuing a PO suppliment.

Sincerely,
Clyde

I have a question on defining a lead finish on magnetics made by CM's.

On our magnetics design drawings we currently call out SN63 for a lead
finish but we have a contractor that wants to us SN60. We don't have a
problem using SN60 but we'll have to change all our drawings to accept
it. When we change to Lead Free solder in the future we'll have to
change all our drawings again.

I'm wondering if there is a better way to call out a lead finish i.e.
"Lead finish shall be solderable" or something simple like that. Or
maybe there is a spec I can call out.

What do others of you do for specifying lead finish on internally
designed components that are manufactured by a CM?

Thanks to all,

KennyB
