LAST CHANCE to REGISTER!

Wednesday, July 14, 2004
10:00 am - 11:00 am (CT)

With the looming implementation of the WEEE and RoHS legislation in Europe, electronic assemblies are being put under a microscope (literally) to determine what materials being used. One of the key materials of interest is lead. What happens when materials are put in a landfill? This presentation looks at this topic in a general sense and then concentrates on inorganic materials and then zeros in on lead. The presented material is not highly technical, but provides a thorough look at the evolution of a landfill, its chemistry and how this relates to the chemistry of lead that find its way into this type of repository. Additional topics include treating leachate, remediation of sites, landfill liners and associated U.S. federal legislation.

Who Will Benefit
This presentation will be of interest to members of the electronics industry responsible for disposal of electronics assemblies and with disposal of individual components and solder dross. The material is suitable for a general audience of engineers, scientists, environmental affairs specialists, purchasing agents and line workers.
