Please excuse my ignorance on the issue of Sn63 as it relates to Military
and Space hardware but, has it been decided which alloy is going to replace
Sn63? - No, there is no drop in replacement that I know of at this date

Will there be a carte blanche approval on all military programs to switch
to
a new alloy without the benefit of qual testing? (I doubt it, who is going
to pay for this testing?)- Again, there is no firm DOD direction that I
know of at this date. If I am wrong, I'd love to hear the answer.

If lead free applies to only future procurements, when is the future? - The
future is now. As new designs come into being, it appears the direction is
going to be lead free. And this doesn't just mean lead free. The wording
is actually no "hazardous" material. Cadmium is also banned.

Is FCS a single program or a directive for future programs? - FCS is a
single program now under design and prototyping. It is the next step the
Army wants to take in light mobile systems. However, other programs I have
seen that are going through the development phase are also being directed
towards no hazardous material.

The way I see it, it's going to be a long time before mil programs adopt a
new lead free alloy. I can't imagine a EU country not purchasing military
hardware due to a lead free clause. - Can't answer that.

Do I need to start thinking about having dual capabilities for leaded and
lead free programs? I'm feeling any pressure to do so at this time but
maybe
it's more imminent than I thought. Again can't answer, though I will tell
you that I believe the move is legitimate enough that I am looking to
purchase a new dual wave system.

Any advice from the "big guns" out there?

Remember, Ramon said "In the military circles that I know about", the new
Army programs like FCS (Future Combat Systems) at present are supporting a
no lead requirement.

Isn't military outside the scope of RoHS?

Cheeky question: Does this mean you won't be selling any of your military
hardware to the EU or for use in California? :-)
