Below are the parameters that our wave operator reported.

Flux: No-clean Indium 3590-TX

The following are conveyor speeds and what they yield:

        6.0 FPM yields a topside temperature of 206 Degrees F and a
solder dwell of 1.1 S. (via wave optimizer readings)

        5.0 FPM yields a topside temperature of 223 Degrees F and a
solder dwell of 1.4 S. (via wave optimizer readings)

Preheat temps are 700 degrees F (zone 1) and 750 degrees F (zone 2)

Solder temp is 500 degrees F

I have used immersion depths of 0.032 and 0.024 for this assembly.

Rich

Subject: Re: [TN] Solder Bridging on a Thru-hole connector

Hi Rich!

Finally got your picture, and it's posted. Go to:

http://www.stevezeva.homestead.com/files/Solder_Bridging.jpg

This picture is pretty blurry, but it's clear enough to see that you
shouldn't be having bridging problems with this connector. It's a
standard-pitch
dual-row connector, and there shouldn't be bridging problems with it.

Can you share with us the parameters for the wave that you're using?

Belt speed?
Pre-heat temperature?
Pot Temperature?
Flux Type?

I see from your web page that you have an Electrovert Econopak Plus 400
wave
machine, with a Sonotech spray fluxer. This machine should be capable of
waving that connector without bridges.

In the meantime, here's a link that has a pretty good troubleshooting
guide
for wave soldering defects. It's based on IPC-S-816. It's not the
end-all for
troubleshooting problems, but a good starting point.
