Hi IEEE-Harvey, Gordon, IPC LF Listservers,
I like Gordon's engineering stuff since he uses numbers, and throws in some
other concepts.
I can't figure from your short note where the Chineese workers are, and
what or how they are dismantling the PCBoards. SO I don't truely understand
the concern of the people and that CA Toxic Group you mentioned. Basically
I can read into your note too many agendas.
SO I agree with you that they probably know from tales about certain smells
that happen when boards are desoldered (un-soldered) and figure that these
smells JUST have to be Lead. Entrapped moisture being released has quite a
stale smell and carries some entrapped chemicals with it.
Now a snip from a Book I am slowly reading titled Inorganic Lead Exposure
Metabolism and Intoxication by the Italians from the University of Naples
(Castellino, et al c-1995). Fortified Wines did have lead in them for
example Old Canary (1770-1810) had 1900 ug/L. New wines Madeira, Port have
150 to 180 ug/L and according to this book the EU legislation at the time
of this book and maybe still, allows 300ug/L.
SO Harvey tell those activist Toxic Group people not to drink any Wine
unless they do extensive research and don't eat any Mexican/American foods
cooked in a "jarro" or a "casuela" (0.33 to 3620ug/mL) was the Pb range
across 36 pots.
It just might be safer, from a Lead ingestion perspective, to dismantle
electronic circuit boards in a manufacturing setting.
Yours in Engineering, Dave
