Well those are some pressing issues that you have, hopefully, accurately
gauged. I don't know the end use, but it does take some unique skills to
install pins in PWBs. You can be compliant, but not in compliance. Some
deformation of the plated through-hole wall and character will lead to
better integrity when force is applied in a calculated manner.
All holes look and act alike, till you pin one up against the wall. It's
like installing septic systems in Arizona; you have to drill some test holes
first to demonstrate you have your**** well for those of you who know me I
will spare you all the bad puns I could do with this one.

Subject: [TN] press fit connectors
Hello Technet!
A question for the press fit connector gurus out there. We are looking
at a job that uses a couple of 160 pin press fit connectors, and I've
never pressed connectors (yet). We aren't going to be building a lot of
these, so I'm trying to figure out what the minimal tooling I can get
away with would be. I am assuming that I will need:
- some support tooling to hold the board and prevent the pressing
operation from destroying it.
- tooling to hold the connector and distribute the load over the
connector
- a press - will a manual press do?
Assuming the board is properly designed (a fair assumption as it's
being produced elsewhere already), is there anything else I need? Is a
flat plate with holes matching up with the pin locations sufficient for
the base?
Thanks, and have a good weekend!
regards,
Graham Collins
