We used an acryate based masking agent from TechSpray that had a built-in UV
sensitive material. You could quickly inspect the coating under 'black light'
for completeness of coverage, then after cleaning for completeness of removal.

The neat part was the lower contact resistance after cleaning, as it seemed
the coating pulled any co-deposited organics from the gold plating out of the
gold finger coating so they were removed during cleaning. (All data reported in
a NEPCON West technical paper a few years ago; reference can be sent to
interested folks.)
Check their web site, to check on current formulations and availability.
