We did component prep in a process step we called "kitting." Kitting
maintained work instructions for preparing components for hand assembly when
required. They occasionally found themselves configuring the same part
number differently for different locations or process sequence. They made
kits for each process step based on lot size. The prepared kits were staged
to each process sequence, rather than have all the parts follow the lot
through the plant.

We had some machines that counted cut components from reels. We had some
machines for lead forming. We did some hand forming if needed. Most hand
assembly was semi-automated, Contact Systems component locators cut and
clinch the leads.
When hand assembly was needed, we cut and clinched prior to wave.

We only trimmed after soldering on boards with special requirements. Most of
the time we did not trim after solder. If we trimmed after solder we
reflowed the connections.
