We do the same as Hans for paperwork. We make our engineering PWB's red and all preproduction and production boards your basic green.

 Jeff,

Our travelers were printed on different color paper for engineering runs or
writing & highlighting "Eng Eval" on every page. We tried putting labels on
the carts or trays with mixed results - didn't always stay with the product.
This was for a med mix, med volume shop.

Subject: [TN] Prototype Identification

I am looking for a "best practice" for identifying engineering prototype
boards in a high-mix low-volume production environment. In the past we have
been a prototype only facility but are adding the capability to do small run
production in house. Since we have more engineers than production techs we
often have engineers involved with assembly and need to track their project
development boards separately.

TIA,
