Joe,
Well because of the cost of lawyers, I sure hope it is not my company that has to be the guinea pig or canary or whatever analogy you want to use!

Subject: Re: [LF] Lead in resistors

Hi Bev,

I was not looking for a crystal ball response, nor was I truly expecting a response through the forum (I meant to respond to Fern privately and unfortunately hit send before rechecking the address as is my normal practice) However, with the question in the open, I must now say that I was really looking for a ray of hope that logic and reason were beginning to enter into the equation. Fern offered that the courts were likely going to get to adjudicate the matter and I am simply in support and with such information would like to help and encourage those who might be pursuing such a course.

I am sure you will recall, that a number of folks have suggested over the last couple of years that some more enlightened and more reasonable companies were likely to look to the WTO for relief based on the fact that they will be legislated into providing more costly, less environmentally friendly and perhaps less reliable electronics (the expert jury is still out on this one it appears) because of the removal of lead form solders mandated by the EU legislation.

I need not remind you, because you well know, that the follow on requirement to recycle electronics after forcing conversion to lead-free makes the entire effort to remove lead from electronic solder pointless from an as yet undemonstrated toxic risk perspective.

Ultimately everything is pretty much a binary proposition, it either happens or it doesn't but the application of logic and reason should be able to help determine which way the switch is thrown. ;-)

Best regards,
Joe
