FYI, I received this earlier this week.
Subject: Stakeholders consultation on Adaptation to scientific and
technical progress under Directive 2002/95/EC for the purpose of a
possible amendment of the Annex.
Dear Madam/Sir,
As you know, Article 4(1) of Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of
the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic
equipment provides `that from l July 2006, new electrical and electronic
equipment put on the market does not contain lead, mercury, cadmium,
hexalent chromium, PBB or PBDE.'
The Annex to the Directive lists a limited number of applications of
lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium, which are exempted from
the requirements of Article 4(1).
Item 10 of the Annex, as published, states that the Commission shall
evaluate `as a matter of priority in order to establish as soon as
possible whether these items are to be amended accordingly'. On the
basis of the provision of Article 5(1)(b) the Commission has received
from Member States and Industry additional requests for applications to
be exempted from the requirements of the directive.
In preparation of the decision for the consideration of Item 10 of the
Annex and the additional requests submitted under Article 5(1) (b), the
Commission services have launched an on-line public stakeholder
consultation with the publication of a Consultation Document on the
following web page:
