Thank you for the link KHZ.

I was amazed to see that the landfill investigated was right on the edge of
the Rhine River. I can't read German (to my regret and embarrassment) but I am
wondering if this was not the reason for this landfill being studied. There
are a myriad of potential contaminants to the river under such conditions.

There are a lot of questions on some of the other values that I found from
the one chart that appeared to have the data showing Blei (Pb) values of 0.01
mg/l and 0.05 mg/l. Is this chart is the source for the upstream and downstream
values you cited? If so then from the same chart, I must assume that 150
mg/l of the chelating agent EDTA was in the upstream water going in to the land
fill and 134 mg/l was leaving. And if this is the case, why is there so much
EDTA in the upstream ground water? I hope you or someone can shed more light.
Please forgive my embarrassing ignorance of the German language.

"As usual, real-life natural processes are so complex, that it
is hardly possible to calculate them exactly "

I fully agree with your statement. It is complex and thus I believe we are
deluding ourselves when we seek to use simplistic beaker tests to assert the
outcome in the real world. In my humble opinion, the results are interesting but
have no real value or relationship to the real world.

Kind regards,
Joe
