Hi Dave,
Not even automotive electronics gets sufficient attention. GM did not even
know that their wiper motor control circuit board assembly produced failures
because of a really bad design, until they built SUVs large enough that the
underhood temperatures got high enough to cause massive failures within the 3-year
warranty period, and NHTSA forced recalls of millions of SUVs.
