I think we might be talking about two different things here. Life expectancy of the product and life expectancy of the technology.

My guess would be that the life expectancy of a commercial grade product built to J-STD-001/IPC-A-610, Class 1, would generally outlive the time until the product is thrown away due to obsolesce of the product.

Of course it is totally dependent on the environment that your product will see. The harsher the environment verses the lower the class level the shorter the life or something like that!

I feel another matrix coming on :-)
