To add in a word.  The original HF1189 was the citric acid and water
formulation originally formulated for use by Hughes.  The citric acid
caused some problems in some cases and so the material was reformulated (by
Kester I think) and was sold as HF1189A, which was based on weak organic
acids other than citric acid, or at least citric acid at a lower
concentration.

HF1189 - Hughes Flux, November 1989.

The original was apparently mainly lemon juice and water that could solder
wood!
