Jeff,

How much it costs depends on what you want, and what they are set up for. The more you differ, the greater the cost differential.

For example, I am set up for 1.5 mil dia gold wire in a dedicated high volume environment. It would cost me (you) a lot to do some piddly bonding here.

We could do some manual bonding, but in the times of lean and mean there is not much time left over for "fun and games". Management would want to know what is in it for them. If it were an automotive application - that would help. Specifics help.

Otherwise, you could start by going to the IMAPS web site http://www.imaps.org/
IMAPS is the hybrid microelectronics packaging society. Once you go to the IMAPS web site, even if you are not a member, you can do some rudimentary searches.

Try the INDUSTRY GUIDE, then SEARCH PROD/SERVICES, then SERVICES, then WIREBONDING. This brings up a few hits.

You could also search for hybrid suppliers.

Many universities also have basic wirebonding capability - so you should check there.

The IMAPS web site has a list of chapters. From this you could pull up the local chapter and see what you can find. On a personal note the Indiana/Michigan chapters are not nearly as strong as they once were. I don't remember if there ever was an Ohio chapter....

When I used to work for CTS in W Lafayette, IN - Purdue had the basic manual wirebonders, but they would always come to me for the higher wire count autobonding requirements.

You can check with CTS at 765 463 2565 - Dick Kramer, but I could not speak for them even knowing what it is that your person wanted. I believe Dick's e-mail is [log in to unmask]

Other than that, I guess the specifics of what your person might want would be better handled off-line rather than dragging all of your 'personal stuff' across the forumn.

On behalf of - H. Jac Fought P.E.:

Do you have any idea of how much wire bond services cost? Or better yet
who does it?

Cheers,
Jac
