I'm here to tell you I've seen a board with 10 ounce copper on the outer layers.  Them circuits was so high that................

Anyway, people really do use boards with heavy copper.  Three ounce isn't even close to extreme.

hi steve well all the guesses were blaming the board, dendrites, aligmnet,
reisn starvation  , but look at the chip in smoking 2 about half way up the
crack on the chip you will see a black burn mark, the chip failed, not the
board, as the chip cracked its usualy a sign it got real hot inside. seen it
many times. if you pull the chip off i bet there is a burn mark under the
chip where it got hot. well thats my guess anyway.
