CAD tool vendors have, and will continue to, take a major hit on the
outsourcing of design work. Many foreign countries do not enforce copyright
laws at all, so the companies in those countries use whatever CAD tool they
want for free. Any revenue the tool vendors can get from these foreign
companies is a bonus.

In actuality, North American hardware companies who outsource are in many
cases supporting the illegal use of North American developed software tools
abroad.

At the same time I don't see any major cost breaks coming for those of us
still trying to do legitimate business here in North America, as we are the
primary source of revenue for the tool vendors.

Some other factors resulting in cheaper development costs in some countries:
- lower labor costs
- no requirements to abide by any environmental laws
- little or no investment by companies in R&D of new technology

Dave

One thing I find a slap in the face is that some (all?) CAD vendors sell
their software in the aforementioned countries at drasically reduced
prices than in North America, in addition their software training is
also a fraction of the cost over there

It actually costs MORE money to develop this foreign language software,
and they are selling it for LESS! You take your software and develop a
foreign language interface, that costs more money

When they kill their market here they better hope they sell a lot of
software over there to make up the difference

Bean counter "we'll just make up the difference in volume"

Greetings DC,
I see over $100,000 in software here.
And to win the prize behind door number 2, guess how they can do design
so inexpensively. Ray
