Dear Colleagues:
The Electronics Industries Alliance (EIA), the Japanese Green
Procurement Supply Standardization Initiative (JGPSSI) and the European
Information, Communications and ConsumerElectronics Industry Technology
Association (EICTA) have developed a draft Joint Material Declaration
Guide. Please see http://www.eia.org/resources/2003-09-19.10.pdf for
the current version of the Guide.
This Guide is intended to standardize material content
disclosures for products and components used in the global electronics
industry. The standardization of such disclosures will facilitate
information communication throughout the global electronics supply chain
and also promote industry compliance with international chemical
restrictions such as the European Union's Restriction on Hazardous
Substances Directive (which bans the industry's use of lead, mercury,
cadmium, hexavalent chromium and two brominated flame retardants by
2006).
EIA, EICTA, and JGPSSI have developed a drafting group that will
consider comments on the current version of the draft and work to
develop a document that will be submitted to interested members of the
industry for their vote. This meeting will take place the week of May
10th.
EIA, EICTA, and JGPSSI are seeking additional representatives
who are interested in participating on the voting group, which will vote
on the draft that will emerge from the May meeting. There is no cost
for participation on this voting group.
The deadline for signing up to participate in the voting group
is May 14, 2004. Voting on the new version of the Guide will likely
take place in June 2004.
Please contact Neal McDonald, Senior Project Coordinator, at
[log in to unmask] or 703-907-7579.
Please provide Neal with your complete contact information. If more
than one representative from a company would like to participate, please
indicate which representative will cast the primary company vote.
Please contact me if you need any additional information.
Regards
