I would say -- it depends.
In addition to Brian's points, let me add:
1. If there are components that are not "sealed", soaking may pose a problem.
2. Consider how long the boards are being soaked and if they will be processed through another thermal cycle (MSD level, etc.)
3. Lastly, we do soak some boards in a 75% alcohol solution for "Omega Testing" We typically soak these for 10 minutes.

Subject: [TN] Soaking Circuit Boards in Alcohol

Hi,
I happened to observe somebody soaking some assembled boards in isopropyl
alcohol to clean them. I was wondering if this was an acceptable method for
cleaning. I know using alcohol to clean is okay but, I'm not so sure about
actually soaking the whole assembly in an alcohol bath. Any Insight would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Joe
