Comment/aside:
If you speak to a mining engineer about the reserves/availability of any
particular metal, he won't be able to answer. Instead his question will
be at what price? The higher the price the greater the reserves.
The price structure we have now is from the existing patterns of supply
and demand.
Bi is only obtained as a bye product of Pb as the balance of supply and
demand sets a price which makes it economic to do so. If the demand for
Bi increases beyond existing capacity then it will be mined directly.
However as it is estimated the elimination of Pb from electronics
assembly will reduce total Pb consumption by no more than 1%, it's
unlikely that the present balance will be much changed.
