Well, it is very evident that you have an electrolytic cell, powered by
the battery itself, which will be at least partially discharged by this
procedure, as well as causing anodic corrosion on the +ve lead. You
certainly have contamination, called water. To put it bluntly, whatever
he is doing and for whatever purpose is just plain stupid. To compound
this, are the batteries designed to discharge at 70°C? I doubt it. And
to cap it all, applying ultrasound to water at 70°C is a pretty useless
exercise, as cavitation energy is inversely proportional to temperature,
as more water vapout "softens" the cavities, which will not implode so
readily or as effectively.

If you wish to clean sealed batteries, I would recommend a cold
non-polar solvent.
