Thanks, Frank.  The summary then is that I am looking at a simple physical change, to which the laws of kinetics do not necessarily apply, although it "looks" like zero order, since I have kept temp, pressure and surface area constant.  Further, the other person I mentioned must have done something that caused an actual reaction to occur in their system.  I will now try and repeat what they did.
