Hi Fred ,
My experience is that we design all our discrete footprints as
per IPC and there has never been any problems. For the 0402 :
X=.70
Y=.90
G=.40
We will sometimes use the smaller ones when there are many to place
and space is at a premium.
Regards,
Andre Demers

Subject: [DC] CC0402 Footprint
Dear IPC; I have a question in reference to a "0402". What is the current
IPC spec. for the footprint. I design my footprint per IPC-782A;
X=.60 Min.(.70nom.) .80mm Max.
Y=.90mm
G=.40 Min.(.50nom.) .60mm Max.
The reason I ask is because vendor's like Vishay, NIC, AVX and Kemet
specify some smaller. Will I be OK with IPC spec's and would you recommend
using the nom. dimension as specified or the max...
Regard's, Fred Dark Jr.
