Speaking from a smaller sized company, over the past few years money for R&D
is just not there.

While we are certainly open to "new" and "improved" ideas...do you realize
how many times we hear of these "new" and "improved" ideas??? many!

Yes, we often do want something for nothing...evidence...evidence that the
product or process is really going to achieve what often times is limited
data, will say it will achieve...we cannot afford to replace a process that
is working with one that may bring bad things down upon us and our
customers...

Immersion Tin is a fine example...there are 2 major immersion tin provides
that we are aware of (there are many more, but the big 2 are spoke of more
often)...we implemented the process from one company based upon 1) our
customers were moving in that direction, 2) a major telecommunications
company based out of France chose that one as the preferred process 3) their
"selling" points, including initial data, conclusions, etc, were somewhat
impressive... ... ... ... and the process was an absolute nightmare to
maintain...

We switched after 12 months to the other player...there approach was
here...lets set you up with a side-by-side comparison...(they brough all
equipment and chemistry in...at their own cost)...and their product won
hands down...

We learned a valuable lesson...one that did cost us over the previous 12
months I might add...scrap cost, late deliveries, customer
unsatisfaction...etc ... etc ...

We do ask who else is using it??? Often because we are friendly with many of
our competitors and gathering insight from them we might 1) sign up quicker,
2) or pass on it if we learn from their problems...gathering that type
information is a good thing...for everybody

How many remember a certain graphite process for hole prep? The process the
induced more black hole than it prevented or eliminated...and how much did
that cost smaller companies??? and their customers...

Not all companies can afford to "sign-up" to these new offerings from our
suppliers each and every time...and with todays economy our vendors need to
almost become more of our support staff than they were in the past.
