Thanks to everyone for your input about the radios. We are going through
several changes here and I wanted as much info as possible.
Since I'm in the QA dept. and manufacturing trainer I get caught in the
middle. I may now be able to present views from both sides. Myself,
when I worked on the floors I found that I focused better and stayed out
of the gossip when I put on my headphones, my production was constant and
defects were down.

Thanks again

Subject: Re: [TN] TN Walkman Radios on the Assembly line

We control what our employees are listening to on our production floor.
The radio plays over ceiling mounted speakers. In order to appease
everyone we switch between a variety of stations, from country to oldies
to classic rock to soft rock to current hits. Every fifth week I feel like
taking vacation (apologies to country music fans, but I find listening to
that for five days straight rather annoying.

I would agree that you want to keep the devices away from the work
surface. Not sure that they will generate or hold and ESD charge, but
better to be safe than sorry. As far as the distraction factor, I can't
speak for everyone else, but I work better when it is quiet.
