There is an ESD control issue as the housing is likely high chraging
plastic that, if not removed, would need to be kept 12" from ESD sensitive
items.

Per ANSI/ESD S20.20 Paragraph 6.2.3.1. Protected Areas Requirement
"All nonessential insulators, such as those made of plastics and paper
(e.g. coffee cups, food wrappers and personal items) must be removed from
the workstation. Ionization or other charge mitigating techniques shall be
used at the workstation to neutralize electrostatic fields on all process
essential insulators if the electrostatic field is considered a threat."

Lance,
I don't know of any detrimental effects to components caused by
the radios. Some companies I have worked at allowed them to be used by
stationary operators only (stuff line, hand solder, etc). Use by
operators of any auto or semi-auto equipment can be a safety hazard due
to physical issues (cords getting entangled in/on equipment). They can
also prevent hearing normal speech or warnings. And in both scenarios
they can detract from focusing on the task at hand with some
individuals, compromising quality....

Importance: High

Can anyone out there tell me if there is a standard concerning Walkmans
and headsets on the electronic assembly lines? I'm wondering if there
is interference with possible damage to components from these radios.
Until recently the stuffing line employees were allowed to have them as
well as
other assemblers. Is there an ESD standard or something? Anything
would
be helpful.

Thanks
