To add birefly to Daan's message.

My company also has an ELA with which we bought the Form Flex
option. As of today however these modules are sitting in a cabinet because
we were never able to make them work consistently every time. As Daan states
the operators would have to massage the pins up and down everytime, which
was a monsterous waste of valuable production line time. Since we are
currently building only single sided PCB's on this particular platform, we
abandoned the Form Flex modules and instead fabricated our own support bars
that are 18 inches long. The operator need only to drop them on the table
and the support is done.
I'm new to the this group, so I'm not sure what has been said in the
past about RED-E-SET tooling, but I know we have successfully implemented
this technology on one of our lines that runs all double sided assemblies.
These modules are great because they require no air or power. You do not
have install and monitor any manifolds or air line. They are individual
spring loaded support systems, that can be setup reliably and quickly
(average less than 1 minute/table)
They are currently avaialable on a most common platforms, including
the DEK ELA.

Hi Eric,

We have to "massage" the pins of the formflex before each change-over
to assure that the pins come up, which is time-consuming and a
frustrating job for the operators. A second problem is that the modules
sometimes need to be repaired because of oil leakage.
But although the system doesn't work as trouble-free as it's supposed
to do, it's still much easier than having to deal with individual
support pins, especially for complex double sided boards My opinion is
that formflex is far from perfect, but still the best board-support
solution you can get for the DEK these days.
So far the service of DEK has been quite good, and even some
modifications to the system were done on our request. I know that DEK is
working very hard to improve formflex.

Good Morning Everybody,
I was wondering if anybody had any comments to make about the
reliability of the Formflex system and the back-up given for this
product. I am struggling with ours despite cleaning and much exercising.
(Formflex, not me!) The ELA has now been out of action for a week and we
have transferred production back to the old SMTech.
Replies off line if you feel more comfortable.
Regards
Eric Dawson
