hi!

we use a specialized pcb system called "baconsoft.." www.baconsoft.com...

the system does the things that you are asking about.. it is a really nice
system, and it is now based on a client/server model..

if you don't have a systems guru on hand, this is the approach i would
take.. a canned system...

i like bacon in that mitch is great about technical support, and will call
back and help you out immediately..

in all cases, the success of your system really revolves around getting
management and employees to take hold of the system.. it's also REALLY
advisable that you have a computer guy around (a good database guy..) to
verify the validity of data, and report to management when there is problems...

but.. again.. like all things.. it's really based on management's
commitment to the system..

if you are really brave, you can hand roll a system.. but it would be
reinventing the wheel..
