Steve,

You reminded me of something that Ed Popielarski taught me about the
Treiber wave solder machine we used to have. The Treibers pot heaters
were something called "Fire-rods" that slipped into seamless stainless
steel tubes that were immersed in the pot. Neat thing about that was
that you could change the heaters if the pot was solid, or liquid...IF
you coated them with good ol' Milk of Magnesia when you first put the
Fire-rods in. If you didn't, don't even think of getting them out easily
when it came time to change them...

Amazing what you can do with household stuff, huh?

Trivia question: Where is the spray on stuff PAM, used in NASCAR?

-Steve Gregory-

 Ingemar,

Your note reminded me that plain old fashioned Phillips Milk of
Magnesia also works as a wetting inhibitor and can be washed off after
experiencing temps of 300°C +. :-) I assume that it is based on
magnesium dioxides ...

heard of some mystic titaniumoxide 'emulsion' that is dispensed with
syringe and dried afterwards. Can be removed with a solvent. Vague tips,
yes, but you asked for ideas. Maybe someone else recognises this better.
