Subject: [DC] Industry Report Card

Industry Report Card....

1) What does the IPC Designers Council mean or do for you?
IPC Designers Council means a lot to me, a group of professionals that
share the same interest and goals, a place where I can get answers to
questions regarding my profession.
2) Do you like what it's about?
I like the fact that they provide standards, and educational material to
keep me informed and up-to-date on current technologies.
3) Do you know what it's about?
I believe I do, it is part of IPC general, and focuses more on the
design aspect of PWB's.
4) Have you investigated into it?
Yes and I'm actively involved
5) Is it beneficial?
For the most part it is, get to have standards to go by, and share
Ideas, with fellow designers throughout the world.
6) Is it Useless?
Absolutely not
7) A boon to designers or bomb?
I would say neither.
8) What should the IPC Designers council be doing, or not be doing?
I believe they should get involved more on the following topics, High
Speed design issues, beyond Impedance calculation, have better
documents, regarding emerging technologies, such as very fine pitch
BGA's what to do, what is the recommended finish type to be used, give
me examples, etc.
What it's not doing is providing or pursuing a common database standard
for PWB Software layout Tools to support, more like what mechanical Cad
software Tools do e.g. IGES, a common database format would benefit the
users (PWB designers).
9) Is the CID program useful? Meaningful? How about the Learning
Symposiums?
As past participant at the IPC learning Symposium, I would say that it
is meaningful, and people do learn from it. About the CID program, I
think it is an excellent idea, and people do believe in it.
10)Are the 50 dollar a year dues to high? Low? Or just right? Are the
discounts deep enough? Or on the right things?
Regarding the annual fee, I feel to be on the low side, about discounts,
I find them not very useful.

It's time for a frank, honest, industry report card. Let's hear what you
the
PCB Designer thinks of the IPC Designers Council, after all, it's your
organization... what do you think of it? Is it perfect? Is it lacking?
What
needs improvement and what needs to stay the same or even go away?
How are we doing?
