Interpretations of the IPC specs and what is compliant are all over
the board. (so to speak)
6012 does require cross sections and coupons. Being a military
shop we are used to coupon evaluations ('55110 requires 3
sections per panel, ouch ) and you should expect an adder for the
cross sectioning. Its a requirement just like soldermask or plating.
I don't know if there is a 'typical' adder but 10 - 15% of the board
cost seems about right. Buy a board for a buck, throw in an
additional 15 cents and you get a look inside the board. Not a bad
deal :-)
