Hans: Contrary to popular belief polyester is resistant, with the exception
of acids, to most chemicals including traditional "solvents". That's why
there are still so many of those old polyester suits still around from the
late 60's early 70's, you can't destroy the stuff.
As I recall a solution of 25% sodium hydroxide will break it down, conc.
propylene glycol may also work. You may want to try a little agitation and
heat to speed it up.

Does anyone know what solvents I can use to dissolve polyester (e.g.
polyethylene terepthalate, PET)?  I tried acetone, and quite a few other
solvents which should dissolve that stuff, but without any luck.  We are not
allowed to use acid.
